Now as for the Vortec heads, from what info I've been able to find out, you can safely flat mill them down .040" and end up with around a 58-60cc chamber. You need a little smaller on a 283 though. Next is angle milling. Angle milling 1 degree will reduce the chamber volume to approximately 50cc which will work great on a 283.
